Sneak preview of July's Classic Machine profile- t Sneak preview of July's Classic Machine profile- the LeTourneau D Tournapull ⁣
⁣
Caption: Northland-based Somners (Waipu) owned this well-kept model D. After 1953, Westinghouse Air Brake purchased LeTourneau, and the machines were now marketed as LeTourneau-Westinghouse. This unit has an optional supplementary air cleaner and one of the new model D scrapers, which replaced the previous E-9 model and held approximately one more yard of material.⁣
The other scraper in the photo is a Blaw-Knox BK-6.⁣

Caption: Another surviving Schield C-35, this time a backhoe variant. It is an extremely simple and straightforward design, with no double reeving of any of the cables. The bucket could be adjusted to vary the angle of penetration by removing the pin and moving the link further up the stick to any of 5 different locations. ⁣

Caption: Models of any Wooldridge equipment are rare and there are unfortunately, none available of any of the Wooldridge Terra Cobras. To hopefully make up this shortfall, here is my own Wooldridge OS-400 cable control scraper behind an MRS 250 tractor unit. The OS-400 scraper held 40 cubic yards and was a real monster scraper. It dates from around 1955. ⁣
