Caption: As mentioned many older Tractomotive loaders are still kept in light service, decades after they were manufactured. This old girl is a model TL-14.⁣
Despite the obvious leaks and missing panels it is still quite capable of putting in an honest day’s work and must have shifted thousands of cubic yards during its life.⁣

Caption: Really nice study of a late production Wabco 111A, taken at Seaview in Lower Hutt, 1978. It has the wider windshield and 23.5x25 tyres, ROPS [roll over protective structure] mountings but no ROPS. This machine came from Australian production (as did most of the 111A’s. (Photo: Author).⁣

Caption: Another survivor, Tractomotive model TL-20 still with its factory fitted cab. The TL-20 carried a very useful 5 cubic yards and was at home in quarries and aggregate plants.⁣
This example is kept as a backup for when the main production machines are out of service. The purpose of the diverter valve attached to the radiator surround is unknown.⁣

Caption: An adaptation of Tractomotive’s largest wheel loader, the model TL-40, this is a D-40 wheel dozer. Developed in an attempt to wrest some sales away from Michigan and LeTourneau-Westinghouse, the D-40 was built in comparatively small numbers over a period of three years. It is quite a rare machine⁣

Caption: With Allis-Chalmers branding far more prominent, this is an example of a Tractomotive model TL-16 with a 4 cubic yard bucket. Although not as narrow as other Tractomotive wheel loaders, the loader lift arms are still very close to the frame and a moment’s carelessness could potentially prove extremely painful! ⁣

Caption: Factory shot of a new model TL-12, Tractomotive’s first all-wheel drive wheel loader that was very popular. The narrow chassis and the close proximity of the loader lift arms to where the operator sits is obvious.⁣
