Caption: C.J. Langenfelder, road building in Maryland, USA in the early 1950s. This excellent photo shows the spring loaded push block on the back of the scraper, as well as the rather vulnerable air brake lines leading down the draft arm to the rear brake chambers. Note also where the bowl is pivoted – directly through the back axle. Scraper in the background is a LeTourneau Model C Tournapull. ⁣

Caption: If you needed a really serious ripper, you need look no further than CRC-Kelley who made some of the most vicious looking rippers your author has ever seen. This deep ripping example is fitted to an Allis-Chalmers HD-41, itself, no small beast. ⁣

Caption: Ateco (American Tractor Equipment Company) manufactured a very wide range of attachments including hydraulic rippers to suit all manufacturers machinery. This is an Ateco ‘Vyba’ model, mounted on the rear of an early (1960s vintage) Michigan 275 wheel loader. Ateco seem to have vanished without trace sometime in the 1990s. ⁣

Caption: Wooldridge Manufacturing offered three different models of cable operated ripper depending on what its customers required. This is a model RS-3, smallest of the three models, designed for use behind tractors of 70 horsepower or greater. Wooldridge manufactured these up until they were bought out by Curtiss-Wright. ⁣
